A Promise to Myself in 2019;

img_0514Dear Self,

I know 2018 was extremely challenging for you. You moved away from your family and friends to a place where you didn’t know a soul. You started a new career whilst trying to figure out how to live in a new state — for the most part on your own.

I know this was all very overwhelming for you. It changed you as a person, and not for the better. You lost yourself in loneliness, and through the pressure of your work. You gave up all the things you love and all the things that made you, you.

2018 may have broken you. But it opened your eyes to a person you don’t want to be. For that, be grateful.

I promise that you will dedicate this year to finding yourself again.

I promise that you will love yourself more and start putting yourself first.

I promise that you will allow yourself to take the time out you need to recharge your batteries and that you will focus on your self-care, rather than allowing yourself to burn out.

I promise that you will be kinder to yourself and that you will let go of the things that you cannot control.

I promise not to let you sweat the small stuff.

I promise that you will do more things that make you happy, like writing, taking photos and reading books.

I promise that you will not rely on people to make you happy, and that you will create your own happiness.

I promise that you will get out of the house more and explore your surroundings.

I promise that you will allow yourself to embrace change, rather than fear it.

I promise that you will not allow yourself to work in a place that does nothing but make you miserable and causes you to be depressed.

I promise that you will not allow yourself to give up the things you love, for a pay check.

I promise that you will not let negative energy consume you and  that you will not let it distract you from all the good things you have in your life, like your partner, your family and your friends.

I promise that you will live your life as your father did, in the moment, rather than watching it pass you by.

Overall I promise you that you will be happy and that you will not let the world make you hard, like you did last year. You’re going to have good days and bad days, but I promise not to let the bad days consume nor define you.

I promise that you will begin 2020 not necessarily knowing where you’re going, but certain of the person you are.

 2019 let’s do this!

Sincerely,

Yourself
